12/28/01, Kabul, Afghanistan, (HORSE) (FGN) (DIGITAL)-During the first Buzkashy, returned to Kabul since the Taliban took the power six years ago, a green team member, right, fights for the calf as a red team member tried to hold on to it with his leg while they held the lashes on their mouth to free their hands to fight, at Chaman Babrak (Babrak's Field) in Shah Shahid town in Kabul, Afghanistan. Buzkashy is a race to grab a dead calf from the ground while riding horses, race to a flag, a mark point, and then, return to a circle where they started. While they are racing, they try to take the calf from each other. Two teams (10 each today, Green team and Red team) usually play against each other but only the winner, the person finally place the calf at the circle, receives the gift money from crowds so that sometimes, they fight each other in the same team. There is usually no prize but the honor and most of the times, the winner gets gift, money, from spectators as much as the spectators wish. (Cr:Chang W. Lee/The New York Times)
